Baoji was once called 'Chencang' and Yongcheng in ancient times. Baoji is the second major city in Shaanxi province. As one of the cradles of Chinese civilization, Baoji has so many cultural and historical sites and relics that it is called 'Town of Bronze Wares' and 'Town of Folk Handicrafts'. Zhou and Qin cultures are well presented. It is also where Taoism and Buddhism mix. Famen Temple is famous for the discovery of the Buddha Sakyamuni's relics.
In Tang Dynasties (618--907), Chang’an-Yongcheng (Baoji)-Longzhou once was the most prosperous and busiest route of the Silk Road. Baoji has long been the most important relay post along the ancient road. Baoji is like a voluminous humanistic book, with each page full of history, which is worthy reading.
