HOHHOT, North China, Nov. 26 -- A winter Nadam, featuring popular sports events and entertainment among ethnic Mongolians, will open on December 23 in Hulunbuir, a city of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
During the event, local residents will participate in three major activities - horse racing, archery and Mongolian wrestling - as well as a marathon and a skiing competition.
Nadam, usually held throughout the pastoral areas in summer or autumn, has a tradition of more than 700 years.
This time, the festival will be held on snow and ice with temperatures lower than minus-20 degrees centigrade.
Tourists are welcomed to join the Nadam with local herdsmen.
Boasting primitive forests, vast grasslands and fresh lakes, Inner Mongolia's Hulunbuir has received more than eight million visitors over the year.
