Nov. 8, 2014 is the 15th Journalists’ Day in China. To salute those journalists who work industriously abroad, People’s Daily Overseas Edition made this special report on those oversea journalists of People’s Daily.

"I was right there!"

Wen Xian — Journalist of People's Daily stationed in the US

After the 18-year-old black man Michael Brown was shot by Darren Wilson, a 28-year-old white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri on Aug. 9, 2014, I went to Ferguson immediately. The disputed circumstances of the shooting and the subsequent protests and civil unrest received considerable attention in the US and abroad, revealing the deep origin of racial discrimination in the country.

Wang Yuran — Journalist of People's Daily stationed in South Africa

On Aug. 16, 2012, 44 strikers were killed in the strike in Marikana mine in South Africa. I went over there on the morning of the next day. That day became the most memorable day of my life. I witnessed bullets, blood, tears… That was the day I realized that you would never be a real journalist if you do not go to the scene.

Hou Lulu — Journalist of People's Daily in stationed Latin America

An extensive fire in Brazil's largest city, Sao Paulo, destroyed some 600 homes in a slum, leaving nearly 2,500 residents homeless on Sept. 7, 2014. When I arrived there, it was all ruined. Firefighters were still working to put out potential fire, but the residents there were so furious. According to them, four to five fires had happened in this place that year.
