BRUSSELS, Oct. 23 -- European Union (EU) leaders met on Thursday for a two-day summit on the EU's 2030 climate change targets.
A main objective of the summit is to reach an agreement on the 2030 EU's climate and energy policy. The policy will address greenhouse gas emissions targets, the Emissions Trading System, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and energy security.
The leaders will also discuss the state of the European economy, based on a presentation by the European Commission and preliminary work completed by the General Affairs Council.
Issues of international concern such as the Ebola crisis, the situations in Ukraine and the Middle East are also likely to be debated.
The meeting marks the last European Council meeting to be chaired by Herman Van Rompuy before newly-elect president Donald Tusk enters into office on Dec. 1 this year.
