Xi said his previous meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin had pushed the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership to a historic new level. He also noted that China and Russia are set to hold joint activities next year, commemorating the 70th anniversary of World War Two.
Xi said the two countries' legislative bodies should participate in those activities and expand coordination to safeguard the post-war international order. Xi also told Matviyenko that he hoped the Russian upper house could help ensure the implementation of cooperation deals and provide legal protection to other projects currently under discussion.
Li talked about his upcoming visit to Russia next month. He said he looked forward to seeing new results after meeting with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. Li also said China is ready to expand cooperation with Russia in trade, investment, energy and high-tech fields. He added that China is willing to participate in Russia's high-speed railway construction and the upgrading of its railway network.
Matviyenko said the upper house will push for the implementation of bilateral agreements that will bring benefits to the people of both countries.
