XINING, Sept. 1 -- A passenger train derailed on Monday afternoon in northwest China's Qinghai Province, local authorities said.

Casualties from the accident in Ledu District, Haidong City are not yet known.

The T373 passenger train departed from the coastal city of Qingdao on Sunday noon and was scheduled to arrive in Xining, capital of Qinghai Province, at 5:30 p.m..

It derailed at about 4:40 p.m. between Laoya Station and Ledu Station in Ledu County.
