The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and the Ministry of Transport have issued a joint circular urging tightened public transportation security in cities, according to the MPS on Monday.
The circular said all public security operations and transport offices should cooperate closely to guarantee safety on subway and bus lines. It suggested terrorist and violence on public transport could be curbed with armed patrols in key areas and routes.
They were urged to draw lessons from major public transport events at home and abroad, comprehensively screening for potential safety hazards.
The circular required all public security and transport bureaus to step up efforts by providing clear policies and standards among staff.
It said they should help educate the public on acquiring knowledge of safety and timely reporting of suspicious objects and conditions.
People who provide important information and help uncover major crimes will be amply rewarded.
