PARIS, Aug. 13 -- French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve on Wednesday said French young recruited by Islamist cells were "probably" participating in militants' offensive in Iraq.

"There are probably (French nationals) battling in Iraq as the Islamic state, who recruited these young citizens, took them to the scene of all combat where its launched its operation," the minister told France info.

According to Cazeneuve, 900 French people joined Islamist insurgents in Syria and Iraq.

As tens of thousands of Iraqi minorities were fleeing to neighbour countries and seek asylum at Europe doorstep, the French minister unveiled that Paris received "hundreds of demands," reiterating that France was working to support humanitarian aid and diplomatic effort to help "the minorities living in Iraq to continue living there."

France has already offered asylum to 11 Iraqi people, according to Cazeneuve.
