17 missing after SW China mudslide

KUNMING, July 9  -- Seventeen people were missing after a mudslide hit Fugong County in southwest China's Yunnan Province early Wednesday, said local authorities.

The disaster occurred at around 3 a.m. at Shawa Village in Fugong, administrated by Lisu Autonomous Prefecture of Nujiang, said a spokesman with the county's publicity bureau.

One person was slightly injured in the mudslide, said the spokesman.

Rescue efforts are underway.
