Situated in Hu County, Shaanxi Province, Zu'an Town is one of the 31 culture-rich towns in the province and dates back over a thousand years. Chongyang Temple, a site of significance in China's Taoism, is one of the most prominent features of the town as a tourist attraction. Chongyang Temple is one of the three major temples of the Quanzhen School of Taoism (the other two are Baiyun Temple in Beijing and Yongle Temple in Shanxi). In 1975, Chongyang Temple became one of the first historical and cultural sites chosen for protection at the provincial level in Shaanxi. In 2001, the Forest of Steles in Zu'an Town was listed among the fifth batch of Historical and Cultural Sites Protected at the National Level by the State Council.
