BEIJING, June 12 (People's Daily Online) -- Chinese netizens have expressed their support for the Foreign Ministry’s announcement of applying for the inclusion of documents related to the Nanjing Massacre in the Memory of the World Register.
One netizen says that the move is of great significance not only for the Chinese, but also for those who suffered the same in history in the DPRK, South Korea and Southeast Asia; it’s an important spiritual legacy, a call for justice and dignity, and an alert for the present and the future.
As to the Japanese protest, Chinese netizens are appealing for the notion of “facing up to facts and treasuring peace”. Just as a netizen puts it, “Men who are unable to face up to mistakes are losers. A nation that is unable to face up to historical atrocities is unforgiveable. The Chinese side must take hard measures concerning the Japanese attitude. We urge Japan to face up to the history.” Another netizen also said that we should remember history, treasure peace, accuse Japan’s anti-human atrocities in China and defend human rights.
Some netizens hold that the Nanjing Massacre should serve as a reminder that the Chinese people should keep making self-improvement.
One netizen wrote: “Self-improvement is the best way to defend us. The siren in honour of the Nanjing Massacre in Nanjing every year tells us that only when we are aware of the challenges can we prevent the history from repeating itself.”
Another netizen says that “I feel angry that the Japanese government does not have right attitudes towards the crimes they committed in the Nanjing Massacre. We Chinese should love our country, and make China more prosperous and the people live a happier life.”
