The rainy, hot and humid weather has severely hindered the repair of the Thousand-hand Bodhisattva in Dazu District, southwest China's Chongqing City. The condensation water has permeated into the stone and covered the whole statue, so the repair works, such as reinforcement, damages repair, colored painting, gilding, were all suspended. Now the technicians can only preliminarily clean the colored drawings.
Built in the South Song Dynasty (1127-1279), the Dazu Thousand-hand Bodhisattva is the biggest statue carved out of a cliff in China. Its salvage protection project began in 2011 and will finish in 2015.
