Israel, Palestinians End First Meeting since Summit in Jericho

Israeli and Palestinian negotiators ended their first meeting on interim issues since the collapse of the Camp David summit in the West Bank town of Jericho Sunday afternoon.

During the recent Camp David talks that ended without reaching a peace deal, the two sided agreed to resume negotiations on interim issues on Sunday, said Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erakat.

However, Erakat said the 15-day marathon Camp David summit was not a failure as the two sides were committed to exert joint efforts to push forward the peace process.

Erakat and his Israeli counterpart Oded Eran discussed interim issues such as Israel's last redeployment in the West Bank and the release of more Palestinian detainees. No details of the meeting were disclosed.

On the bilateral cooperation, commander of Palestinian Preventive Security in Gaza Mohammed Dahlan was expected to discuss with Israeli Interior Minister Shlomo Bin Ami on security issues.
