Qinhuangdao to Become East Bridgehead of Eurasia BridgeQinhuangdao will become one of east bridgeheads of new Eurasia Bridge, as is known from an International Symposium on East-West Eurasia Bridge Cooperation and Development held lately in the city.The symposium was co-sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation. Famous economists and experts known in bridge construction from Japan, ROK, Mongolia and China attended the symposium. In-depth discussions were conducted by the experts at the symposium centering on such hot issues as fund finding, sustained development of economic zones, Eurasia Bridge's role in economic cooperation between Asia and Europe, and prospects for Developing East Asia cooperation of Eurasia Bridge. "Qinghuangdao Declaration" was issued as a result of consensus achieved on developing East-West Eurasia Bridge cooperation. The trends of economic globalization and grouping of regional economies have created new opportunities for developing international Eurasia Bridge cooperation. The Chinese government's timely west development strategy is a principal measure for an integrated development of regional economies. Under the framework of South-South cooperation, Chinese provinces and cities along the Eurasia Bridge will as a whole gradually strengthen their links and cooperation with East, Central and west Asia in addition to Europe, the Declaration announced. A consensus by experts at the symposium stated that Qinhuangdao is one of east bridgeheads of new Eurasia Bridge. As a major communication hub, it will play an important role in linking up Northeast Asia with East Asia. "Overall Development Plans for Construction of Qinghuangdao Bridgehead of New Eurasia Bridge" and "Provisional Stipulations Governing Economic Operation and Services of Qinghuangdao Bridgehead of New Eurasia Bridge" are being worked out at present. It is reported that Qinhuangdao city will accelerate construction of deepwater berths, expand construction of its railway stations and build container transit stations with loans from the World Bank. In addition to expanding construction of civil aviation and telecommunications, it will also establish an "Bridge International Area" in the state-level Qinhuangdao Sci-tech Development Zone. Active efforts are being made to build Qinghuangdao into a bridgehead of the First Eurasia Bridge in north China to open up an international channel to link up the capital cities of China, Japan, Korea and Mongolia along with those of Central Asia along the New Eurasia Bridge.
