NW Province to Invest Heavily in Highway Construction
Northwest China's Gansu Province plans to spend 5 billion yuan (US$602 million) on improving transportation facilities in the next five years, and increase highway length by 2,200 km.
Some 4.29 billion yuan (some US$517 million) will be used to build highways and investment for rural road construction will total 600 million yuan (some US$72.29 million).
Construction on eight main roads, including Baiyin-Lanzhou, Liugouhe-Gulang, Yongchang-Shandan has already started and will be completed in two years.
At present, there are still over 2,500 villages in Gansu that do not have access to bus transport due to adverse natural conditions and fund shortage.
