Top Advisors Hear Report on Strategy for Developing Western China

Zeng Peiyan, minister in charge of the State Development Planning Commission, delivered a report April 7 on the government strategy for developing the underdeveloped western region on a large scale.

Several vice-chairmen of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) were among the audience.

In his speech, the minister spoke on the great significance of launching the strategy, basic knowledge of the western areas, the plan's general considerations, and this year's major tasks.

During the third annual session of the CPPCC, China's top advisory body, many of the National Committee members submitted proposals on the issue, and these proposals have been sent to the concerned departments, according to Zeng.

He said that the government will solicit public opinion from among all circles in order to reach a consensus and work out a plan on implementing the strategy.
