Friday, February 18, 2000, updated at 12:20(GMT+8) Sports PPCC Members Endorse Beijing Olympic Bid "I sincerely wish that Beijing will be successful in its bid for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games." Chen Guangwen, chairmen of Beijing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference wrote down his congratulations on the official Site of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee and signed his name at 9:30 on Feb 16. And 13 vice-chairmen also put down their signatures. By now, a total of 260 Beijing CPPCC committee members have signed their names on the web indicating their support for Beijing's bid for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games. At 11 o'clock on the morning of Feb 16, over 30 Beijing CPPCC committee members held a seminar on the bid for hosting the 2008 Olympic Games. They all offered their opinions and suggestions. Some of them proposed listing the factors of failure last time and drawing lessons therefrom, some pointed to the need to bring home to the citizens the fact that improvements have been made in recent years, some thought that new, characteristic concepts should be stressed to draw more attention from the voters and some emphasized that a new Beijing featuring a combination of modern appearance with ancient culture would be more attractive to the world. It is reported that the Beijing CPPCC committee members present at the seminar were from Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, Jiu San Society and nonparty democratic personages.
