China More Roads to be Built in the West

The nation's communication officials have announced their latest plans to help develop China's western areas. The Ministry of Communication says it will build more roads and highways in western regions to boost economic development there .Eight major roads connecting the east and the west will be laid covering a total of 15,000 kilometres.

Ministry officials also announced in the next two decades, a transportation network will be basically established. Meanwhile, the quality and management of roads in the western regions will be improved. This will ensure the network of highways operates smoothly. Currently three-fourths of the towns and close to half the villages -- not connected by roads -- are located in western China.
