Sci-Tech Li Lanqing Inspects Tsinghua University's Nuclear Energy Technology Design Institute

As the joyous Spring Festival is approaching, Li Lanqing, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and vice-premier, inspected the Nuclear Energy Technology Design Institute of Tsinghua University February 2, extending festival greetings to the teaching staff and scientific research personnel. He also called on three senior professors with Tsinghua and Peking universities and Renmin University of China.

At the high-temperature, air-cool experimental reactor project site and the low-temperature nuclear heat supply reactor of Tsinghua University's Nuclear Energy Technology Design Institute, the vice-premier made a detailed inquiry into the situation regarding the institute's work and the progress of project construction.

It is reported that this research institute is one of the earliest developed nuclear energy science and technology experimental and research bases in China, after 40 years of development, it has become the largest experiment and research base that combines teaching, research and production in China's higher education department, which is engaged mainly in nuclear energy science and technology research and comprehensive development of multiple branches of learning. It holds an important position and exerts great influence on the development of the country's civil-use nuclear energy science and technology.

Li Lanqing expressed the hope that Tsinghua University would give play to its own strength, further strengthen the integration of production, teaching and research and make still greater achievements in technological innovation.
