World US Seeks Meeting with DPRK at Panmunjom

The United States Forces Korea (USFK) Tuesday said it remains ready to discuss perceived tensions along the Demilitarized Zone with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

In a press release, the USFK said it Monday proposed a meeting at the truce village of Panmunjom with the DPRK Panmunjom mission after the latter's press recently alleged that the former had madearmistice violations.

"The North Korean Panmunjom Mission ignored the meeting and gave no reason," the USFK charged in the release.

The USFK said the "false accusations," which have appeared in the DPRK press recently, highlight the desire of Pyongyang to "artificially increase tensions on the Korean peninsula."

It pointed out that propaganda by Pyongyang is "not productive to maintaining the armistice and reducing the threat of confrontation on the peninsula."

The USFK added that it remains ready to meet with its DPRK counterpart at any time to discuss the continued stability along the Demilitarized Zone. (Xinhua)
