World Chinese Vice Premier Starts Visit to Belgium, EU

Chinese Vice Premier Wu Bangguo arrived in Brusls on January 23 to start his visit to Belgium and the European Commission (EC), executive body of the European Union (EU), in a bid to enhance ties between China and European countries. During his four-day visit, Wu is due to meet with European Commission President Romano Prodi and Belgian Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt respectively on Monday.

He will also meet Tuesday with the EC's Vice President Loyola de Palacio and the EU's Enterprise Commissioner Erkki Likkanen, Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy and Foreign Relations Commissioner Chris Patten.

Belgium is the second leg of Wu's current three-nation Europeantrip after his visit to Britain on January 18-22. He will attend the World Economic Forum in Davos, Swizterlands.
