Sci-Tech Guangzhou Ranks First in Household PC Ownership

According to the newest survey, Guangzhou leads the nation in terms of the percentage of households who own a personal computer at 35.4%, up five percentage points from 1998.

Nearly half of Guangzhou's high income families have a computer while the percentage of low income families who computers is higher than 15%. This is higher than the percentage of families who own cellular phones (36% high income families have a cell phone, 7% for low income families.)

Increasing their knowledge about computers and getting information online is the number one motivation for families in Guangzhou to purchase a computer. Computer literacy has already become a fairly common condition for employment in Guangzhou's job market.
