China Chinese NPC Chairman Meets Vietnamese Delegation

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), met with a Vietnamese procuratorial delegation headed by Procurator-General Ha Manh Tri in Beijing on January 17.

Li said China and Vietnam are now undergoing economic reform. Extending a warm welcome to the delegation, Li expressed the belief that Ha's visit will stimulate judicial cooperation between China and Vietnam as well as bilateral relations.

Li briefed the guests on the construction of China's legal system. He said that China's Constitution states that China rules the country and builds a socialist country by rule of law. Since procuratorial organizations are playing an increasingly important role in China's legal system, Li expressed the hope that China and Vietnam will further expand their cooperation.

Ha said the procuratorial organizations in China have a wealth of experience on which their Vietnamese counterparts can draw on. He hoped that the close bilateral cooperation in the procuratorial sector would further deepen.

The Chinese Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Vietnam Supreme People's Organ of Control signed a cooperative agreement this evening.

The Vietnamese delegation is visiting China at the invitation of Chinese Procurator-General Han Zhubin.
