China China Calls for Close Ties between Army, Government and People

Chinese President Jiang Zemin sent a letter on January 12 to a national meeting saying that the nation has a fine tradition of the people, the army, and the government supporting each other, and this is a political advantage for the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The meeting was held to name several counties as model counties for maintaining good relations between the people, the army, and the government.

Hu Jintao, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, said that agreement between the army and the people, and the unity of the government, the army,and the people, are the magic weapon with which the Party can win victory after victory.

He said that at the turn of the century, the nation should exploit the full advantage of this tradition, and enable everyone become aware of the importance of this special unity.

He said close tie between the army, the people, and the government will be very significant for increasing the nation's comprehensive strength, and safeguarding sovereignty, security, and unification. This will also be a force pushing social and economic development, he concluded.
