China China Opposes Using Religion to Split Nation

State councilor Ismail Amat told a national conference on religion work on January 10 that considering the arduous work to be done this year, China will adhere to the reform and opening-up policy while firmly resisting hostile overseas forces that use religion to infiltrate into China and firmly opposes any ethnic separatist activity that takes advantage of religion..

He said that over the past 10 years, China has prevented hostile overseas forces from using religion to split the nation, and has safeguarded stability in ethnic minority regions.

The official attributed this success to the implementation of President Jiang Zemin's instructions concerning religion, and the implementation of the Party's religion policy.

He noted that China has strengthened the management of religious affairs while guiding religion to adapt to socialism.
