Sci-Tech High-Tech Enterprises Thriving in East China Province

High-tech enterprises have been thriving in recent years in east China's Jiangsu Province, which ranks second in the country in terms of GDP.

Official statistics show there are now 962 high-tech enterprises in the province with annual pre-tax profits of 17.5 billion yuan.

Twenty-one of these enterprises have been listed on the Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges and more than 40 achieve at least 100 million yuan in annual sales.

The Jiangsu Jingshi Group, a leading electronics company, generated more than 500 million yuan in sales last year, 10 times the figure of several years ago.

Jiangsu launched a massive campaign to revitalize its economy by relying on science and technology in 1993, and has since taken a series of measures to boost new and high-tech industries.

The total investment in this sector reached 30 billion yuan over the past three years.
