Sci-Tech Branches of Test-Tube Banana Trees Bent With Heavy Load

At present, test-tube sapling bananas planted in Wuzhishan Township in Tongshi City, Hainan Province, are ripe, two local farmers are using bamboo poles to prop up the branches bent with heavy loads.

They told Our Staff Reporter Du Jiang that the output of test-tube bananas doubles that of locally grown bananas, the heaviest one is 15 kg per stem. Although their market price is a bit low, there is no doubt that they are profitable.

Wuzhishan Township is an exceptionally difficult place in the State-class impoverished city of Tongshi. Since 1995, the government has devoted great efforts to developing scientific plantation, thanks to the endeavor, per-capita income of people in the township has increased from the original less than 700 yuan to the present 1,200 yuan.
