Sports China Won Another 15 Golden Medals

China won another 15 golden medals in on Wednesday, the last day of FINA world cup Shanghai leg. Two people broke five national records.

Chinese Olympian Jiang Chengji won the 50 meters freestyle, beating German Alexander Luederits and Italian De Felice Piergiorgio, Wednesday, at the FINA World Cup short-course swimming Shanghai leg.

Jiang led all the way from the start to clinch the title with a time of 22.36 seconds. Luederits was second in 22.42 and Piergiorgio came to third in 22.45.

Jiang, the first Chinese men's swimmer who entered the Olympic finals since 1984 and finished fourth in the men's 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly at Atlanta in 1996, plans to compete in more international events to rebuild his form.

"I will be in Australia, Britain and Germany for the World Cup series," Jiang said.

China added 15 more golds Wednesday to 13 it won Tuesday, gathering a total of 28 out of 34 goal medals in the two-day meet.

On Wednesday, Qi Hui won the women's 200m breaststroke in 2:23.73, Ruan Yi took the title in the women's 200m butterfly in 2:07.04 and Yang Yu grabbed the women's 400m freestyle title in 4:06.11.

Chinese men's swimmers broke five national records in the two-day event as Xie Xufeng bettered three in 100m, 200m and 400m individual medley and Ou Yang Kunpeng improved two in 50m and 100mbackstroke.

The next leg of FINA World Cup Series will move to Hong Kong on January 8.
