Sci-Tech HK Transport Services Normal On First Working Day

Hong Kong's transport services are running smoothly on the first working day of 2000, a Transport Department spokesman said Monday.

The department's Emergency Transport Co-ordination Center had not received reports of any problems during the morning peak period, the spokesman said.

"The concerted efforts of all members of the transport sector have allowed us to smoothly enter the new millennium," the spokesman said.

A "business-as-usual" check this morning confirmed that computer systems were operating normally in the transport sector, including the operators of public transport, tunnels and bridges, government car parks and parking meters.

Computer systems in the Transport Department's Licensing Offices and Vehicle Examination Centers, as well as those controlling traffic signals, were confirmed to be operating as usual.

Cross-boundary passenger and vehicular traffic, and traffic around the container port area, were operating normally. (Xinhua)
