Sci-Tech Northeast China Province Develops Agriculture with Hi-tech

Jilin Province in northeast China will use high technologies such as geography information system, remote sensing and global position system to improve agricultural output.

Experts said the technologies will help farmers know how to accurately sow seeds, apply fertilizer and pesticides, weed out weeds, as well as control pests and plant diseases, because conditions of plots of farms vary in different areas.

Such kind of "accurate farming" projects will also be implemented in three years in nine other provinces of China, said an official in charge of the province's Agricultural Comprehensive Development Office.

He said the projects would not only improve agricultural output, but also control pollution caused by chemicals and reduce production costs. (Xinhua)
