World Cambodian PM Urges People to Safeguard Stability

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen Saturday called on his fellow countrymen to safeguard national stability for the benefit of social and economic development.

In his closing speech at Angkor-2000 Festival, Hun Sen said the festival was "a cry of all our hearts which tell us to be united and to work concertedly for the prosperity of our nation."

Stressing that to safeguard national stability is most important for Cambodians, Hun Sen said: "Nothing is better than peace and national reconciliation to mobilize all forces for social and economic development."

He appealed to the whole country to promote peace and national unity, to strengthen the Culture of Peace..., in order to re-establish the glory Cambodia used to enjoy during the period of Angkor of the last 1,000 years.

Hun Sen also highly praised King Norodom Sihanouk as the glorious king of Cambodia for the century, and the millennium.

On the government's foreign policy in the new year, Hun Sen said Cambodia must "strengthen our relations of friendship with all countries, making Cambodia a friend to all in the world." " Cambodia needs no enemy nor interference but it needs only friendship and cooperation."

Cambodia held a three-day grand cerebration in front of Angkor Wat to greet the new millennium. The event attracted about 100,000 people from all over the country, and foreign tourists.
