Business China's Largest Container Terminal To Be Expanded

The expansion project of China' s largest container terminal in the port of Tianjin went under construction in Tianjing on December 28.

The port of Tianjin has been the busiest waterway for foreign trade in the north part of the country.

So far this year, the port has handled a total 1.3 million TEUs, which involved 70 million tons of goods.

To cope with the development of foreign trade, the port is scheduled to expand its eight container-handling wharves in the next five years.

When the project is finished in 2005, the Tianjin port will have world-class rank. By then, it will have the capacity to handle 2.8 million TEUs with a total of 100 million tons of goods. (Xinhua)
