Monday, December 27, 1999, updated at 09:52(GMT+8) China China, Vietnam Border Trade Booming China's border trade with Vietnam has made a new breakthrough and building contracts are in great demand in Vietnam. The border city of Fangcheng Port in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has become a major beneficiary of the booming trade, with contracts worth 18.66 million US dollars signed with Vietnam in the first 11 months this year. Vietnam has witnessed an infrastructure spree in sectors including hotel upholstering, road construction, port warehouse building, and appliance assembly. At the same time, rich agricultural and cultural resources in Guangxi such as tea, aquatic products, pottery and other handicrafts, have also found good markets in the neighboring country. Officials with the foreign trade department in the city of Fangcheng Port attribute the trade surplus to China's preferential policies on promoting border trade issued early this year. They also foresee more trade with high-tech content next year. Trade between China and Vietnam is mutually beneficial, and popular Vietnam products such as processed cassava slices, coconuts, and rubber are also selling well in China.
