Education Chinese Normal School Teachers Commended

The Tsang Hin-Chi Education Foundation commended 999 Chinese normal school teachers for their contributions in training teachers at a ceremony here today. A total sum of 5.95 million yuan in prize money was awarded.

Among those commended, ten received 50,000 yuan (about 6,000 U. S. dollars) each, 50 received 15,000 yuan each, and 939 received prizes of 5,000 yuan.

The Tsang Hin-Chi Education Foundation was established in 1992 by the Ministry of Education and Tsang Hin-Chi, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC). Tsang is also a Hong Kong entrepreneur, who has donated 100 million Hong Kong dollars.

The Foundation commended over 6,000 normal school teachers from 1993-1996, awarded prize money worth 39 million yuan.

Peng Peiyun, vice-chairwoman of the NPC Standing Committee, Wang Zhaoguo, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and Chen Zhili, Education Minister attended today's ceremony.
