Sci-Tech China's Biggest Computer Production Base Starts Construction

Stone-laying ceremony for construction of a computer production center has been held in Shenzhen City of south China's Guangdong Province.

The project, called the Great Wall Scientific Research and Development Center, is expected to cost a total investment of 230 million yuan (28 million US dollars) and will be jointly financed by the Great Wall Science and Technology Co. Ltd. and China Great Wall Computers (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd. more than 370,000 sq m. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2001.

Upon completion, the center, with a total floor space of some 80,000 sq m, will be able to manufacture one million sets of multi- media computers annually, in addition to scientific research and development of color monitors and hard drives.
