China Wu Bangguo Meets Myanmar Foreign Minister

Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo expressed hope on December 23 to further promote trade and economic cooperation with Myanmar as the two countries have made considerable progress in this respect in recent years.

At a meeting here with Myanmar's Foreign Minister U Win Aung, Wu said China and Myanmar enjoy good political relations and are close geographically.

He said Myanmar has abundant natural resources, while Chinese products and technology are suitable for Myanmar's situation. Both countries should take every opportunity to actively explore new ways to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation. The Chinese government will continue to offer assistance to Myanmar and encourage capable Chinese enterprises to cooperate with their counterparts there in various forms.

U Win Aung said the government of Myanmar is devoted to national reconciliation and unity, and economic development is an integral part of this process.

Myanmar highly appreciates China's support and assistance, he said, and is willing to increase cooperation with China in areas such as agriculture, irrigation and hydro-electricity.
