Culture Guangzhou Sells Works of Art by Auction for 4 Million Yuan

"China Jiade"99 Guangzhou Winter Auction was concluded recently in the White Swan Hotel, with the volume of transaction amounting to 4.17 million yuan.

During the "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting" special auction, the work, "A Dog Playing Under a Flowering Cherry", done jointly by Gao Jianfu, founder of the Lingnan (south of the Five Ridges) School, and a Japanese painter, was sold at a price of 165,000 yuan. The figure painting by Ren Bonian was transacted in return for 154,000 yuan. The work, "Sailing With the Wind" (upper picture), by Guan Shanyue, was changed hands at the price of 132,000 yuan. The " Charm of Autumn", a gold medal-winning work by Wangjin, was transacted at a price of 27,500 yuan, topping the list at the special auction. The works by Guan Shanyue, Liu Dawei and other famous painters were sold at above the estimated prices.
