Culture Harbin Has Tallest Ice Building

Construction of the tallest ice building in China will soon be completed in Harbin, capital of northeast Chia's Heilongjiang Province, to celebrate the dawn of the new century.

The ice structure, dubbed "Century Bell Tower," is as tall as an 11-storey apartment building, will be built using 4,000 cubic meters of ice blocks, and cover a total area of 1,200 square meters.

Construction of the tower began in a large ice-and-snow amusement park on December 4. When complete it will be topped with two electronic bells with a diameter of 2.8 meters.

The amusement park will open to the public on the last day of the year as one of China's major millennium pageant sites.
