Wednesday, December 15, 1999, updated at 10:48(GMT+8) China Chinese Courts to Crack down on Crimes Chinese courts will crack down on crimes that endanger state security, illegal organizations and cults, said Xiao Yang, president of the Supreme People's Court in Beijing Tuesday. In the new year, Chinese courts will also actively deal with criminal cases within state-owned enterprises to ensure that laws and regulations are carried out effectively. Xiao said that in 1999 Chinese courts dealt with more than 1.65 million cases from January to October, an annual rise of 30.66 percent. These cases involved 143.7 billion yuan, 44.5 percent more than the same period last year. There were over 4.6 million cases during the January-October period, up 6.81 percent over the same period last year. They dealt with over four million cases, an increase of 6.45 percent on a yearly basis.
