Sci-Tech President Yan to Fly with Passengers Aboard His China Southern Airlines to Greet 2000

President Yan Zhiqing, president of South China Airlines (CSA), will greet the first day of the new century by flying over the Pacific with passengers aboard his China Southern Airlines.

On the same day, Han Mazhang and Hu Yunqi, secretary of CSA Party Committee, and vice president of CSA will take the flights from Guangzhou to Singapore and from Guangzhou to Beijing as part of the effort to further prove a complete settlement of the Y2K problem. Li Fenghua, vice president of CSA will pilot Boeing 757 from Guangzhou to Beijing.

China Southern Airlines is the first Airline Corporation that has been categorically authorized by CAAC. It has spent more than 5 million yuan in beating the Y2K since May 1998. Thorough examination shows there is already no Y2K problem found in the time, flight management and recording systems of Boeing 737s, 757s and Airbus320s of the Corporation since the flight group is lately set up. Nine Boeing 777s by CSA are newly imported planes with the highest level of electronicalization.
