Tuesday, December 07, 1999, updated at 09:21(GMT+8) China Jiang Zemin Meets Governor-General of Bahamas Chinese President Jiang Zemin met with Governor-General Orville Turnquest of the Bahamas and his party on December 6 and exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues of common concern. Jiang said that China treasures China-Bahamas friendship, adding that China is pleased to see the smooth development of bilateral relations since the two countries forged diplomatic ties. He noted that bilateral ties have a broad prospect and will be boosted by Turnquest's present China tour. The president stated that China wants to advance cooperative relations with countries in Caribbean region and in Latin America. He also expressed appreciation for the Bahamas' adherence to the " one China" stance and that country's support of China's reunification. Turnquest said that he has become well-acquainted with the situation in China through the current visit. He praised China's achievements in different areas. The general-governor reiterated the "one China" position of the Bahamas and said that his country will continue to enhance Bahamas- China cooperative relations. Turnquest is on a private visit to China as guest of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs.
