Sci-Tech Exhibition Showcases HK's Technological Achievements

An exhibition to showcase Hong Kong's technological capabilities opened in Hong Kong November 26 the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

The five-day event, named "Innovation 2000 - the Millennium Frontier," is aimed at deepening public understanding of innovation and technology as engines of our economic growth.

"Technology made large populations possible; large populations now make technology indispensable," Financial Secretary Donald Tsang said at the opening of the exhibition.

The application of advanced information and technology in modern society is bringing about radical changes, Tsang said, adding that Hong Kong is well known for its entrepreneurial spirit as well as its readiness to adapt to changes and new developments.

More than 170 exhibitors, including companies from various industrial sectors, universities and industry support organizations, are participating in the event.

Organized by the Industry Department with the Hong Kong Productivity Council as the technical organizer, the exhibition highlights three thematic pavilions entitled "Technology Frontier, " "Quality Home" and "Global Connection."

There will also be live demonstrations on facial recognition security system and smart-home installations, and displays on Internet technologies as well as latest developments in information technology, software and multimedia productions.

A series of shows, seminars and workshops are being held concurrently. Topics addressed include product innovation, knowledge-based management, intelligent home, power of Internet and its application, digital effects for featured films and television.

As part of the event, a software exhibition is organized to provide local software vendors with a forum to introduce their innovative products and the latest information technology applications. (Xinhua)
