Sports Martin Beats Enqvist to Sent Kafelnikov Through

American Todd Martin crashed Swede Thomas Enqvist 6-4, 6-1 November 26 at the ATP Tour world championship, and Martin's win sent Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov through into the semi-finals of the year-ending tournament in Hanover, Germany.

Both Martin, world number seven, and Enqvist, world number four, have 1-2 records in the White Group to wait for the outcome of the last game of the group between unbeaten Kafelnikov and German Nivolas Kiefer, who is 1-1.

Top two finishers of each of the two groups, which bracketed the best eight men's tennis players of this season, will advance into the next round of the 3.6-million-US-dollar event.

In the Red Group, world number one player American Andre Agassi had already enter the semi-finals without losing a set in his three matches in the round-robin matches.

Former world number one American Pete Sampras is likely to be the other advancer when he faces Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador, who is 0-2, with a 1-1 record. Brazilian Gustavo Kuerten is awaiting after won one against lost two in the group.
