Sports China Youngsters Stun HK Badminton Open

The younger Chinese made four of the 10 seats in the finals at the 30,000 US-dollar Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships on November 26.

Chinese pairs have assured the women's doubles title when Chen Ling and Jiang Xuelian meet teammates Lu Ying and Huang Sui, the top two seeds, in the women's doubles final.

Chen/Jiang duo beat Malaysia's Lim Pek Saih and Quay Joanna Swee Ling while Lu/Huang pair beat South Korea's Yim Kyung Jin and Lee Hyo Jung.

Second-seeded Chinese Chen Wei claimed the second finals berth for the Chinese team, which fielded a younger second team in the tournament, after defeated Indonesia-borned Hariyanto Agus of Hong Kong of China.

In the men's singles, Chen will face third-seeded Tam Kai-Chuen of Hong Kong, China, who snapped the strong resistance from Indonesia's Irwansyah.

Chinese unseeded Xie Xingfang is promised to have a hard final meeting with third-seeded Ling Wan-Ting of Hong Kong, China, who toppled Chinese Dong Fang in the quarter-finals and Hu Ting, world junior runner-up, in straight to enter the women's singles final.

This is the first time that Ling, last year's semifinalist in the tournament, sails into Grand Prix finals.

China's Guo Siwei and Chen Ling will face Malaysia's Chan Chong Ming and Quay Joanna Swee Ling in the mixed doubles final.

The only final match excluding Chinese shuttlers is the men's doubles final, which picks up Olympic silver medallists Malaysia's Cheah Soon Kit and Yap Kim Hock against Indonesia's Halim Haryanto and Sigit Budiarto. (Xinhua)
