Thursday, November 25, 1999, updated at 10:10(GMT+8) China Hu Jintao Meets Kazakhstan President Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao told visiting Kazakhstan President Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev on November 24 that the talks between the heads of the state of the two countries on Tuesday will push forward the development of Sino-Kazakhstan good-neighborly partnership oriented towards the 21st century. Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Nazarbayev held talks Tuesday afternoon, during which the two presidents exchanged views on bilateral ties and issues of common concern. The two countries also signed several cooperation documents following the talks. During today's meeting, Hu expressed his satisfaction with the advancement of the bilateral ties since the two countries forged diplomatic relations eight years ago. He said that the two countries have not only scored achievements in their cooperation in the fields of politics, economy and trade, science and technology as well as culture, but maintained sound consultations in regional and international affairs. The two countries have also completely settled border issues, he added. Hu expressed his appreciation for the achievements Kazakhstan has made in terms of political stability, ethnic integrity, economic recovery and elevated international status since its independence. He added that under the leadership of Nazarbayev, Kazakhstan will fulfill its ambitious development objectives. Hu also praised Kazakhstan's adherence to the one China policy and support to China's reunification cause. Nazarbayev described his talks with President Jiang as "very good." He said that the two countries have a strong aspiration to further the existing bilateral cooperative ties rather than focus on any economic and political conflicts. Nazarbayev said that his country cherished its relations with China and the two-way trade should be promoted to a higher level. Kazakhstan will strengthen cooperation with China against ethnic splittism, fundamentalism and terrorism, he said.
