World Chinese Freighter Rescued in Korean Waters

A Chinese freighter was rescued by a freighter from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on November 16 after losing control in violent typhoon earlier, the "Rodong Sinmun" newspaper reported Friday.

The Korean side learned at 5:00 p.m. local time on November 15 that the Chinese freighter was hit by a violent typhoon and was drifting on the sea off Wonsan on the east coast of DPRK.

The rescue ship rushed to the area of the accident in six hours and took another five hours to locate the Chinese vessel in extremely bad weather.

The Chinese ship was tugged to safety the following morning and all 14 crew members on board were sound and safe.
