Sci-Tech China, ROK Civil Aviation to Conduct Y2K Exercise Drill

The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) and its counterpart in the Republic of Korea (ROK) will jointly conduct a drill targeted at the Y2K millennium bug this evening.

A CAAC official said that the drill will begin at 22:00 (Beijing Time) and end tomorrow morning, during which time a Chinese plane will fly from Beijing to Seoul, and a ROK aircraft will fly from Seoul to Beijing.

The drill expects to examine navigational and telecommunications systems, airport energy supplies and airborne equipment to ensure that all these electronic systems can be safely used at the turn of century.

The CAAC conducted a successful domestic drill last month in the northeast city of Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province. (Xinhua)
