South China's Hainan Province is considered to have the world's narrowest peninsula, according to the Shanghai office of the Guinness Book of World Records.

According to local sources, Yudai Sandy Peninsula on the eastern coast of Hainan Island cuts into the South China Sea, separating Wanquan River, a major local river on Hainan Island, from the South China Sea.

The peninsula has a length of 2.5 km from north to south and a maximum width of about 300 m from east to west. Its minimum width is about 12 meters at high tide.

Yudai Sandy Peninsula was recently confirmed as a world record by Guinness's Shanghai office. (Xinhua)
