China China Concerned about Taipei-Tokyo Relations

China is concerned about the " Friendly City" relationship between Taipei and Tokyo, which was proposed by Tokyo Governor Ishihara Shintaro during his recent trip to Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said at a regular press conference in Beijing on November 16.

The friendly relationship between Beijing and Tokyo is based upon the Sino-Japanese Joint Communique and the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan, Sun said.

The fundamental purpose of Ishihara's claim that Tokyo and Taipei would form a "friendly city" relationship, Sun said, is an attempt to destroy the political basis of the already-existing friendship between Beijing and Tokyo.

Ishihara's proposal constitutes a potentially serious political situation and bring great damage upon the friendship between Beijing and Tokyo and between China and Japan, he said, adding that China will continue to pay close attention to the development of the situation.
