China China Awards Workers' Organizations for Renovations

The All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU) announced in Beijing on November 14 that it will honor 110 workers' organizations throughout the country for launching successful technical renovations which have improved a large number of enterprises.

The Chinese working class has made great achievements in upgrading technology in enterprises, the ACFTU said.

Award winners are those groups responsible for making profits for their enterprises with their technical development results. Various workers' technological associations played major roles in overhauling the existing technologies.

For example, members of the Chongqing-based Jialing Motorcycle Group's workers' technological association invented a new kind of engine.

Another group in Longyangxia Hydropower Plant repaired a severely-damaged water turbogenerator, saving the plant 26 million yuan (3.13 million US dollars).

The Chinese Workers' Technological Association was founded in early 1960s, and now has as members tens of thousands of grass- roots bodies and millions of skilled workers nationwide.
